Why support Third Party Verification?

Third Party Verification is a reliable alternative to requiring a consumer to visit the winery. TPV verifies buyer is 21 years of age.

  • Most Popular are ChoicePoint and IDology
  • 3 States Require Electronic Age Verification:
    Michigan, Ohio and Georgia
  • TPV Confirms Age by Cross-Referencing Against Database of Age-Related Information. Uses First & Last Name, Address, DOB, Last 4 Digits of SS#

Why support increasing the shipping limit to 10,000 cases?

Currently, the 3000 cases shipping limit restricts Indiana Wineries from marketing a shipping program or having a viable wine club. Wineries want to ship to all Indiana consumers who want their wine without having to inform the consumer that they can’t ship to them because the winery reached the 3000 case limit earlier in the year.

Why support allowing Indiana Wineries to own 50% of a micro wholesaler license?

Many of Indiana Wineries are owned equally by husband and wife. If each owner could own up to 50% of a micro wholesaler permit, then the family owned winery would not have to rely on an outsider to hold the micro wholesaler license. The micro wholesaler license was created to give Indiana wineries an ability to use micro wholesalers on their premises so long as the micro wholesaler does not sell more than 12,000 gallons of wine or 5000 cases of wine per year to retailers.

Why support giving back some of their wholesale privileges?

2006 legislation stripped Indiana wineries of their wholesale privileges that they enjoyed for over 30 years. Allowing Indiana Wineries to sell their wine directly to Indiana retailers, with a 2000 gallons (833 cases) per year cap, gives Indiana’s small and fledging wineries a chance to cost effectively market their wine to retailers.
